The masterpiece Euro pallet
As a standardised solution, the Euro pallet has ensured efficiency and sustainability in the transport industry for decades.
The Euro pallet, technically called the "flat wooden pallet as per EN 13698-1", with the dimensions 800 x 1200 x 144 mm, was introduced in 1961 by the railway companies ÖBB, DB and SBB as a standard exchange pallet for rail transport. Other European railways soon joined the UIC (Union Internationale des chemins de fer) and established the Euro pallet as a standardised reusable exchangeable pallet. Production and repair were regulated in UIC leaflets 435-2 and 435-4, while the European Pallet Pool (EPP) ensured the smooth exchange of pallets. In the meantime, the Euro pallet has established itself not only as an aid for railway freight transport, but also as a rationalisation tool for other logistics processes.
